Rachel Hickin, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides individual therapy for preteens, adolescents, and young adults regarding concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. With a focus on creating a warm and nonjudgmental space, Dr. Hickin aims to provide a simultaneously structured and yet flexible therapy experience based on the needs of each individual client. She primarily utilizes the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach, but also regularly incorporates elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Additionally, Dr. Hickin provides psychological evaluation services for individuals of all ages to address questions about academic achievement, developmental functioning, possible ADHD, possible autism, socioemotional problems, and other psychiatric diagnoses. She also conducts required presurgical evaluations.
Dr. Hickin earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and her doctorate in clinical psychology from Bowling Green State University. She completed her doctoral internship in health service psychology at The University of Akron Counseling and Testing Center where she also pursued specialized training in biofeedback and then completed her postdoctoral training at Kent Psychological Associates where she received further training in therapy and psychological testing.
In her free time, Dr. Hickin enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watercolor painting, reading, hiking, renovating her home with her husband, and quoting The Office.
